Mahi
Here are our current undertakings including some projects we aspire to as part of our 5 year strategic plan.
Ballads to Blues
A concert showcase of top NZ Folk Artists
January 3rd 2023, 8pm, Hanover Hall, Dunedin
We’re pleased and proud to announce our inaugural event, a concert in Dunedin off the back of the fabulous Whare Flat Folk Festival (Dec 30th - Jan 3rd) featuring a slew of great artists: Peter Madill, Sonia & Nigel, Chris Priestley and The Eastern, along with local house band, The Dunedin Ceilidh Orchestra. Ballads to Blues in an unashamed nod to the wonderful concerts of yesteryear in Dunedin, and later as the annual crowning event of the now-defunct National Folk Festival held in the Wellington Opera House. Tickets on sale now.
Folk Music Awards
ANZFA plans to make annual awards for albums or other bodies of work in the categories of Traditional, Contemporary, Americana and Kiwiana. The timing and methodology for this endeavour is still being fine-tuned, but we hope to make our first awards in 2024.
Fundraising and Grants
In order to undertake our mission, we’ll require some seeding funding to get the ball rolling. While it is anticipated ANZFA will become self-sustaining, it will require a healthy bank account of trust funds off which to base our activities. Grant applications will commence in early 2023.
A Quarterly e-Newsletter
ANZFA aspires to keeping the wider folk community appraised of events and developments of interest, solicit and share ideas and to create a sense of community across the motu.
Touring and Venue Information Resources
A project to produce a dynamic database of current New Zealand venues, clubs, festivals and other performance opportunities is to be considered, to be made available to members and event managers.
